Overview
The necessity and objectives of studying this field include: reviving and consolidating the foundations of Islam and the Shia doctrine, assisting in the development and dissemination of pure Islamic culture, recognizing the intellectual, political, and social backgrounds of Islam and the Shia doctrine, preventing distortion in the history of Shia and responding to doubts.

The lessons in the field of Shia history cover a wide range of topics including the biography of the infallibles, Shia political history: uprisings, Shia political history: governments, Shia historiography (with emphasis on source knowledge), Orientalists and Shia history, history of Shia sects and theological ideas, research methodology in history, the role of Shia in Islamic civilization, social history of Shia, historical geography of Shia, educational institutions and Shia scholars, Imamate occasions with followers of other religions, Islamic sects and doctrines, the concept and history of Shia emergence, philosophy of humanities from an Islamic perspective, and research methodology in the Quran and Sunnah.

University of Islamic Culture and Education affiliated to Imam Khomeini Education and research Institute. ICTVU was established in 2006 for the purpose of producing and publishing lessons and textbooks on Islamic teachings focused on the fundamental Islamic doctrines. The center admits students for master’s and bachelor’s degrees, and offers free courses.
